WalletHub’s annual rankings of where high quality of life for families exists comes from a study of various demographic and economic statistics

A new “best cities for families” scorecard ranked Irvine third-best and San Bernardino seventh-worst.

WalletHub’s annual rankings of where high quality of life for families exists comes from a study of 47 demographic and economic statistics to weigh who’s best and who’s worst among 182 big cities. Those figures are sliced in five key family-critical categories — fun; health and safety; education and child care; affordability; and socio-economics.

Irvine earned its No. 3 ranking by getting No. 22 out of the 182 cities ranked for fun; No. 2 for health/safety; No. 4 for education/child care; No. 44 for affordability; and No. 4 for socio-economics.

San Bernardino ended up at No. 176 by scoring No. 26 for fun; seventh-worst for health/safety; 18th worst for education/child care; fifth-lowest for affordability; and No. 154 for socio-economics.

Overall, WalletHub’s best place for families was Overland Park, Kansas. The worst? Detroit.sdf
